Nordic Combined season started today with Mario Seidl’s first individual World Cup victory. Seidl jumped an amazing 145,5 meter long jump and managed to keep Norway’s Jarl-Magnus Riiber behind in the cross country. Favorites Akito Watabe and Jan Schmid failed their jump’s and weren’t able to compete for the victory.

Ilkka Herola and Eero Hirvonen also failed their jumps so the Finns hopes fell into Leevi Mutru’s shoulders. Second best jumper Arttu Mäkiaho commented his jump to Yle.

– I have had a small amount of jumps on snow, so maybe it affected my jump today.

To the ski part Seidl headed with a comfortable 57 second lead over Riiber. Riiber skied very well and at the 8.6 kilometer mark the lead was just 10.3 seconds. In the end Seidl managed to keep Riiber behind and won his first race with a 16.5 second lead over Riiber. Johannes Rydzek was third with a great ski part. Seidl told in an interview after the race.

– This feels amazing. I dreamt about this last night and today I had a perfect jump. My skiing was on top today technically and my last lap was great.

Leevi Mutru was the best Finn today. He was 17th. Eero Hirvonen was 30th and Mäkiaho 31st. Other Finns, Ilkka Herola was 33rd, Atte Kettunen 47th, Wille Karhumaa 52nd and Waltteri Karhumaa 54th and the last man with a finishing position.

Nordic Combined continues on Sunday at 10.45 am with a team competition.
